Feeling thankful

Wow. It’s been a nuts week. If you missed it, we were at CES where we did about 50 videos, two hours of video content, had about a month’s worth of video views and all-in-all had a nuts time.

I’m so happy for how everything has gone, and am thankful for our team both on and off site. Not to mention Wendy Gorman of the CEA, who hooked everything up for our studio.

I can’t describe how happy I am, and am thankful for everyone who’s supported TechVi thus far. Thank you so much.

Politic2.0, Seth Godin and a general “WTF”

So Politic2.0 was a pretty good success, but with some unfortunate pitfalls. We tested streaming + recording a DV copy a few times, but for some reason during the event, the iso record didn’t work. We’ve got the video, but no audio, which really really sucks. In essence, I’ve got to figure out another way to backup the audio out of my mixer. I’ve got a pretty good idea how to fix it (since we’re using USB -> computer, we could use the “regular” outs to go to the camera and iso record) but that kind of sucks for the earlier thing.

Oh well, transparency.

Second thing, Seth Godin says he’ll come to Utah! Check out Phil’s blog for the deets.

Now, for the general info. You going to be in SF next week for Web2.0? I’ll be there, so if you want to meet up, let me know.

Tech Check Daily will restart after Web2.0. Yeah! BTW, if you want a founding stake in the company, let me know if you’ll quit your dayjob to do it full-time. Lots of fun stuff coming, o stay tuned.

Google results

Oddly enough, Tech Check Daily is the number one result on google for “Beer flinging fridge.”

Guess that shows that the more we post there, the more successful we get.

Also, look at the traffic numbers. Seems weak cause, well, the site is a small one, but no significant drop off like I had last fall. No shortcut to winning.

Resume updates

So here’s the deal with my current job situation: I’m back working full-time for someone else, and I thought I wouldn’t do it but then I realized the opportunity is mine to blow. I’m working for WikiReview, which i’ll be talking about more later.

More as I get a few minutes.

State of TCD

So I’ve been doing Tech Check Daily since November (October, technically) and things have been going well. Right now, here’s what I hate and like about the show.

Hate–
Since we don’t have enough time (we’re busy with our two other jobs) we can’t do the kind of show we’d like. Example, yesterday’s show. I only got to write a first draft of my script, and after reading through it a few times, I really didn’t like the way I explained some concepts (especially the vista story.) I didn’t realize how weird it sounded when I totally buried my lead till it was too late, and basically I’m just dissatisfied with the show yesterday.

Love–
Graphics! I also love the fact that my on camera presence is getting better, and noticbly so. The benefit of doing the show every day, and then editing and posting the show is the fact I have to watch myself. I’m working on getting better, so even if I’m not happy with the show due to lack of time, it’s going to continue to get better.

My new goal? I picked up two great freelance gigs, and after I get my January Weblogs, Inc. payment, i’ll be out of debt. I want to quit my job at some point in the future, but I’m not certain how I can make up the rest of the cash. I think if I give myself a big paycut, especially now that I have equipment and have actually paid for all of it, I’ll be good to go. The biz still has about $3,000 on my personal credit, but its at 0% interest till next year. Hopefully it can pay me back by next year.

2007 Goals and Beyond!

Time for my new set of goals for 2007. (Scroll down for how I did in 2006.)  I’m going to include business goals too, because it’ll be a nice reference page for all things Randicular.
Daily Term:

  1. Read Scriptures (every day!)
  2. BTF&S (it’s an acronym for a reason.)
  3. Do a show every single day.

Short Term:

  1. Quit freelancing all the time, despite the nice cash money.
  2. Make Tech Check a viable site within the short term timeframe.
  3. Weekly biz show prep and execution

Mid Term:

  1. Convince crazy people to quit their jobs and join up with me [June 15th]
  2. Have enough revenue to get those other crazy folks to join up [June 15th]
  3. Daily biz show [April-ish]
  4. Subsequent tri-daily biz show [May-ish]
  5. Get enough revenue to hire another person. [June '08]

Long Term:

  1. Start dating (hehe)
  2. Create a business that looks attractive enough to have an exit strategy (primarily acquisition)
  3. When said acquisition happens (or IPO, although not realisitc) buy Tonya’s house for her
  4. Get married properly, etc etc. (notice how it’s number four?!)

Last year, I created a goal page that I plastered on my door so I’d check it every day.  It consisted of a few differing goals.  I had three mid-term goals I wanted to accomplish.

#1 three blog posts a day

#2 New York by April

#3 Churchy stuff every day/week

Guess which ones I accomplished?  If you guessed #2 and #1, you’d be right!  Churchy stuff seems to be more difficult than anything material, for a myriad of reasons.  I think it’s difficult cause it’s supposed to be a daily thing, as opposed to New York by April (which I reached in January, BTW…) because it’s less concrete.
