Ta-ta Engadget podcast… we barely knew thee

sadgadget.jpg

Ryan’s announcement of the show going on hiatus saddens me a bit. I’ll save the reminiscing for another time, but suffice it to say, the show will be missed. Thanks for the memories, the audio, and most of all, the friendship guys.

Quote of the day

“Randall Bennett – the small fluffy kitten of the cell phone world,” says Richard Baguley, EIC of WirelessInfo, “Although I have no idea what that means.”

Seizure and movement

So… on Saturday I had a major seizure. We’re talking most major since I was 15. It was the grand maul style, with lots of associated scares for everyone around me. Thanks to that, I decided I need health insurance, and emailed back someone who had previously offered me a job. I’ll likely be taking them up on their offer and be moving back to the east coast soon enough. I’ll be a resident of a Boston suburb.

Crazy times for me, and lots of unanswered questions. What happens to tech check? What happens to the osiris network? (yet to be blogged about) What happens to everyone around me? Still lots to decide, but needless to say i’ll be deciding it here shortly.

Right now, I’m thinking of leaving tech check behind for a while. It’s a turbulent time in my life, and by leaving tech check behind, it would essentially die. While that’s pretty sad, i think saving my own life, and getting treated properly, will be my primary goal. I think Tech Check is a 2009-2010 thing anyway, and maybe i’ll bring it back from the dead then. I’m not exactly sure, but i’ll figure it out.

So, boston, eh? =) Back to my family’s roots.

Judith leaves Weblogs, Inc.

So I still can’t put in to words what it means that Judith Meskill is leaving Weblogs, Inc., but let me try.

I didn’t work as tightly with Judith as many other people I know at WIN, but Judith had such a way of taking every individual (that I know of, at least) and taking a personal stake in each of us. Last year, during my “dark time,” Judith was one of the first people to ping me and offer support. That meant a lot to me.

Before that, Judith was the first person to give me a shot to blog. She gave me so much opportunity, so much support, and always found a few minutes to ping and say hi.

Judith rules. Period.

Politic2.0, Seth Godin and a general “WTF”

So Politic2.0 was a pretty good success, but with some unfortunate pitfalls. We tested streaming + recording a DV copy a few times, but for some reason during the event, the iso record didn’t work. We’ve got the video, but no audio, which really really sucks. In essence, I’ve got to figure out another way to backup the audio out of my mixer. I’ve got a pretty good idea how to fix it (since we’re using USB -> computer, we could use the “regular” outs to go to the camera and iso record) but that kind of sucks for the earlier thing.

Oh well, transparency.

Second thing, Seth Godin says he’ll come to Utah! Check out Phil’s blog for the deets.

Now, for the general info. You going to be in SF next week for Web2.0? I’ll be there, so if you want to meet up, let me know.

Tech Check Daily will restart after Web2.0. Yeah! BTW, if you want a founding stake in the company, let me know if you’ll quit your dayjob to do it full-time. Lots of fun stuff coming, o stay tuned.

CCI is making progress!

Hey!

Looks like some blog stuff I’m doing over at CamcorderInfo is making progress! Our uniques on the blog are up mega! We’re going to keep kickin’ it in the meantime.

Wallstrip is so awesome

SO I’m a videoblogger, and I’ve started noticing other videoblogs of note…. for example my favorite is Wallstrip… by far. It is awesome. I’m a money geek, so its money + humor, and it = brillance!

Best. Day. Ever.

I can’t elaborate on all the details as of yet, mainly because some of them aren’t finalized and some of them can’t be public… but today is the best day I’ve ever had. Seriously.

The downside to the best day ever? It’s all downhill from here. :) Look at that lil optomism I’ve gleaned from last year. As I recall, late january and early february were also the best days ever for me before. Yeah, it makes me guard my optomism a whole lot more, knowing one day in may could ruin a whole six months of optomism.

Not going to think about that for now. On to the list! (none of these have to do with my “real job,” in case you’re wondering.)

1) Raise
2) Bonus
3) TECH CHECK DAILY SPONSORSHIP OFFER !!! ZOMG!!!!!
4) finalization of freelance contracts
5) realization I can safely quit my day job!!!!
6) More meetings with the kids at WikiReview.

I can’t believe it! BEST DAY EVER!

Now, off to a Madden 07 tourney with dudes from my church. Patriots all the way!

DV Guru

Cya DV Guru. I’ll really miss you, being my first love and all. I’m heading to greener pastures where they measure success in higher CPMs, instead of mediocrity according to pageviews. I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow, but for now, this is about DV Guru.

DV Guru has literally changed my life. Sounds hyperbolic, right? But, it’s really (eally) true. DV Guru gave me an avenue to A) learn more about video, B ) get into “pro-blogging,” C) expose me to great people to work with and D ) gave me a chance to make a video that would impress the right people, and allow me to move to New York.

Man, it’s been a crazy time, but I’ll geniuinely miss you DV Guru. I might have not taken care of you as best I should, especially when I realized we were doomed, but you’re my dogg, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Seriously. For reals.

Now, on to the next day. Makes me feel good that people responded to our demise with such nice words, and nice offers… ;) Lets just say you’ll see something from me soon. Like tomorrow. And, it’s in addition to Tech Check Daily.

Nerd Fyte!

http://scobleizer.com/2007/01/27/big-gadget-sites-dont-link-to-blogs/

Wanna see the essence of a nerd fight? Scoble lobs a completely untrue accusation at Giz and Engadget, apologizes for it, but still whines about not getting link love. People have editorial policies. Shock? As for Scoble whining about them not linking to Podtech’s video of Ryan Block’s apartment, not everyone wants to come off as pretentious as Cory Doctorow (IE… I’m speaking here next week! Buy my book!) Personal blogs are around for a reason, to be a personal outlet. Engadget serves a very different purpose, and to whine about their editorial policy doesn’t help anyone… especially Robert Scoble.
