Cross Country trek

So, I’m going to be heading out on a cross country voyage. I’ve mapped out where I want to go, and the detours I want to take (Chicago, New York and potentially Philly depending on whether or not I can convince some poor suckah friends to let me stay at their pad.) According to AAA’s trip planner, it’s going to take about 36 driving hours total. I budget eight hours of driving a day, although hopefully I can convince myself to do more than that. At that rate, if I leave Utah on May 28th, and spent no extra time distracted, I’d roll up on Somerville, MA on June 1st exactly. Instead, though, I think I’ll roll up on Somerville on Saturday/Sunday, so I can take some extra time to see old friends in NYC. I more or less just want to roll through Chicago, and am not absolutely committed to staying there. In fact, I’m going to revise my list to not even go to chicago, but instead only put New York as a for certain waypoint, and philly as an option.
Now, tips for not going crazy in the car? I’ve got XM sattelite radio, so I figure I’ll be able to switch between CNBC, CNN, HLN, Ethel47 and maybe even find some other random music stations. Anyone got any other tips on how to stay sane?

Load up on back episodes of TWiT, Daily GizWiz, MacBreak Weekly, etc. Oh, better yet, subscribe to this year’s SXSWi feed and get hours of free content from the event. But skip the panel on Snakes on a Plane - it was pretty dumb and they swore way too much.

Also Books on CD are great, although its tough to check them out from the library here and return them if you aren’t coming back before they are due :(. Podcasts may be your best option.

BTW, when are you going to give us regular folk the skinny on what you’ll be doing in Boston? Unless I missed a post somewhere…

@J Maxfield - What? I thought the Snakes on a Plane panel was pretty interesting. Mapping was a snoozer and so was online typography sucks. Man do I love the SXSW feed.

@Russell - I dunno man. To each his own. It was a little too Inside Baseball for me. I didn’t see the movie. I prolly never will see the movie. And I’m not a huge fan of hearing F^#& over and over. So yeah.
But by and large, the feed is great. I’ve got too many more still to listen to count. Rob and Jason’s discussion on creativity was awesome - be sure to give that a listen if you can. And Dan Rather’s talk was pretty good too. Except he couldn’t grok any of the internet-related questions. Which was part of the charm.
