Tech Check Daily ethics

The New York Times has a story on how they’ve fired some freelancers for ethics violations. I always love a good public execution, so when news broke about John Biggs being dropped from the times, I couldn’t help but be entertained. John Biggs, formerly of Gizmodo and currently of CrunchGear, was nixed from the NYT after publishing two stories about Samsung after taking junkets from the Korean consumer electronics giant for CrunchGear.
This also brings up an issue for me, with Tech Check Daily, I’m going to say we’re following the Times’ stance on junkets, and following their ethics policy all around. Thoughts? The real dilemma isn’t when we’re so freaking huge we’ve got cash coming out our eyeballs, but more in our startup phase, till we’re hitting 1M+ pageviews per month.

UPDATE: John Biggs wasn’t fired, just publicly flogged. Thanks to the jackanapes calling Josh from CrunchGear for the correction. Maybe instead of worrying about ethics, I should focus on reporting first… (hey, at least it’s on my personal blog no one reads but technorati searchers for “John Biggs,” right?) Oh, and junkets still aren’t cool, even if you don’t get fired.

John Biggs was not fired from the Times, you jackanapes. Check today’s Circuits section: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/01/technology/01lens.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

That’s fine Randall, I’m not against your opinion on junkets. Just want the facts straight.

Hey,
I appreciate the correction! I breezed over the article, and didn’t realize since he’s a freelancer he isn’t held to as stringent of an ethics policy as a “regular writer.”
Later!
