Auto payments suck

Posted by dextr0us on January 28th, 2007 filed in .etc

I just had a costco nightmare. Yesterday, I picked up all my costco groceries, went to pay and my DEBIT card was rejected. I started losing my mind! I thought I was a victim of ID theft, but turns out I’ve had this autopayment thing on my credit card since 2005. I pay off my credit card every month, but this month I decided I had to shift some money around, and decided against paying the full amount as I usually do. Apparently, the auto pay was to pay the full amount of the credit card, and consequently, it really ruined my day. Good thing for cell phones, as I straightened out the situation and left with my groceries, after an hour of phone time with America First.

A friend of mine had a real mess with an ISP that he’s set up auto payments with who then fell off the face of the Earth (no response to email or phone), but continued to charge the auto payments. It was quite the ordeal, culminating in his appearing on “Get Gephart”. That has made me cautious about doing any auto bill pay.

[...] Kind of depressing to realize that is a one percent rebate. I spend a lot of freaking cash on credit cards, but the one time I try to manage my money different, I get hosed. [...]
